Born in Trondheim, received his first jazz impulses while at Voss, came to Bergen 1979 and joined the Knut Kristiansen / Per Jørgensen Quintet (1979-1980), played at Vossajazz 1980), spent six months at Toneheim Folk High School (1980) prior to jazz studies at the Trøndelag Music Conservatory (1980-1983).

During his time in Trondheim he played with the student groups Chorus and Gunnar Berg’s Kapell 1981-1982, the Bjørn Klakegg Quintet / Sextet and Trondheim Sympatiorkester (Trondheim Sympathy Orchestra) 1981-1983, played in the Trondheim Big Band and in the Matarese Circle at Vossajazz 1982, but also built contacts with Oslo and was a young and remarkable talent in the Per Husby Quintet 1980-1983, Espen Rud’s Kråbøl 1981-1983, the Jazz Punk Ensemble 1982-1985 and with Arild Andersen and Jon Christensen in the quintet that would later be known as Masqualero after their first LP 1983. He has toured both Europe and the US with this band, created great music at many festivals and also recorded «Bande a part» 1985, «Aero» 1987 and «Re-enter» 1990.

1983 he received the Reenskaug award from Drøbak Jazz Club and played on Jon Eberson’s LP «City Visions», the next year he played on Espen Rud’s «Hotelsuite», played with the Trondheim group Plumbo 1984-1985 and in bassist Bo Stief’s group in Copenhagen from 1984 (recording «Hidden Frontiers» 1987), in the Little Frøen Saxophone Quartet 1985-1986 (recording «4 menn» 1986), Bjørn Alterhaug Band 1985-1987 (recording «A Ballad» 1986), «Oslo 13» 1987 and 1990-1992 (recording 1987) and the Vigleik Storaas Quartet 1987-1992, renamed «Lines» after their first record from 1988.

This skilful and sought after saxophone player also recorded with Alfred Janson 1987, Bjørn Alterhaug 1988, Jon Balke 1990, the Jazz Punk Ensemble 1991 and 1997, Orleysa 1991 and 1993, played at festivals with Knut Kristiansen’s Monk Memorial 1987 and Papa Mu 1990, had a duo with Scottish Chick Lyall 1987-1989 (recording «Tilting Ground» 1990) and was a member of the Rita Marcotulli Quartet from 1989 (recording 1992).

He played in Norway with the Kjersti Stubø Band from 1990 and Ab und Zu from 1992 (performing «Den akustiske skygge» /«The Acoustic Shadow» 1993) and Jon Balke’s «Magnetic North» from 1993 (recording same year), performed the commissioned «Tid» («Time») at Vossajazz 1989 and from 1990 toured with his Tore Brunborg Prosjekt (recording «Tid» 1992 with Bugge Wesseltoft, Anders Jormin and Jon Christensen).

He has worked with Arild Andersen («Kristin Lavransdatter 1994-1995, Arild Andersen Prosjekt Molde 95, the album «Hyperborean» 1996, Arild Andersen Trio Molde 97), Knut Kristiansen («Monk Moods» released 1995), Knut Værnes / Lasse Danielsson (Molde 1995 and the Norwegian Jazz Forum tour 1999), Misha Alperin (the CD «North Story» 1995), Jan Gunnar Hoff («Crosslands» 1996), Swedish Anders Kjellberg (1996) and American Billy Cobham («Nordic» 1996 and the follow-up «Off Color»). In 1997 he recorded under his own name with Kjetil Bjerkestrand, «Prima Luna»; the following year brought the duo record «Orbit» with Jarle Vespestad and Espen Rud’s album «Rudlende».
